Student Computing

You will quickly notice that the majority of law students use laptop computers.  Laptop computers are an easy and convenient means of taking notes during class and working in the library.  The majority of classrooms in the College of Law are equipped with plug-ins conducive to computer use.  If you wish to purchase a laptop computer, you may want to check out the Campus Computer Store website at http://ccs.usask.ca/

If you decide not to utilize a laptop computer, please note that the College of Law no longer provides students with a computer lab.  While three desktop computers are available in the student lounge, the closest computer labs are located in the neighbouring Arts & Science Building.  The Law Library also participates in The Laptop Lending Program .

Wireless Network

The majority of the Law Building is covered by a wireless network; however, to access this network (and consequently the internet) your computer must be appropriately configured.

Top configure your laptop (containing a wireless internet card) please reference the following website: Student Computing: Wireless Network Configuration

If you have difficulties configuring your laptop to the network, the Information Technology Services Help Desk can assist you.

Printing

Information regarding printing on campus is available at the following website: Student Computing: Printing.  Furthermore, there are two printers in the Law Building that may be accessed by students from the wireless network; one printer in the library and one printer in the student lounge.  To configure your laptop to connect to these printers, refer to http://www.usask.ca/law/incoming/index.php?id=1012

Textbooks

The LSA provides an opportunity to purchase used law books during the first week of classes.  Purchasing used books will save you a substantial amount of money.  Furthermore, bear in mind that many professors also provide a list of "recommended books" in addition to the class' primary casebook.  Purchasing these additional books is also rather costly; however, such books are often available on reserve in the Law Library.

New textbooks are available through the Campus Bookstore.

Fitness & Recreation

Physical activity is an excellent way to deter the effects of spending hours on end studying law; furthermore, many studies indicate that physical activity and academic performance are linked.  The University of Saskatchewan and the Law Students' Association provide numerous opportunities to stay active while in law school.

Campus Rec Sports
Campus Recreation provides numerous opportunities for students to participate in recreation sports activities throughout the school year and summer.  Campus Rec sports include: volleyball, basketball, soccer, football, slow pitch … just to name a few.  There are even a few more "exotic" sports such as inner-tube water polo.  Be sure to check out the Campus Rec Website for up-to-date information.  Note: Most Campus Rec teams play once per week and play-offs are generally scheduled to not interfere with final exams.

Early each term, the LSA provides sign-up sheets for a variety of Campus Rec sports.  Students can sign-up and play on a "law team".  Playing on a "law team" helps build a little college pride!  If there isn't a LSA sign-up sheet for a particular sport Campus Rec, you also have the option of forming your own team or playing on a team composed by Campus Rec.  Be sure to check the Campus Rec Website for details and deadlines.

Physical Activity Complex (PAC)
PAC is the University of Saskatchewan's new Kinesiology building that opened in August 2003.  In addition to a swimming pool and squash courts, PAC provides students with a state-of-the-art Fit Centre.  The Fit Centre houses an impressive offering of cardio machines and weights.  Each law student may access the Fit Centre with his/her student card.  Furthermore, the Fit Centre offers a variety of fitness classes, ranging from yoga to step classes.  Such classes are generally free or available for a small charge.  You can access printable schedules for fitness classes and swim times via the provided link.

The Fit Centre also houses a climbing wall.  Please note that all climbers must partake in a mandatory orientation and safety test before being permitting to climb.  More information on the climbing wall is available via visiting the Fit Centre or checking the PAC Website .

LSA Sporting Events

In addition to Campus Recreation and PAC, the LSA hosts and participates in numerous sporting events.  Such events include the golf, dodgeball, basketball, curling and hockey tournaments!  Sign-up sheets for these events will be posted in the law foyer.

If you require further information regarding LSA Sporting Events feel free to contact the Men or Women's Athletic Representative.
